One question, worked through

A real-style question from this topic, with its full explanation. Take your time here; on the day you will have 15 seconds.

You crossed a combined line to overtake while the broken stripe was on your side. Halfway through, the stripe on your side becomes continuous. What does the code allow?

  1. You must stop and wait for the line to change
  2. You may not return and must turn off the road
  3. You may cross again to take up your normal place on the right
  4. You must stay on the left until the line becomes broken again

The answer

C — You may cross again to take up your normal place on the right

Why

Drivers who have crossed a combined line to overtake may cross it again to resume their normal place on the carriageway.

Why not

  • A Stopping in the oncoming lane would be dangerous and is not required.
  • B The article expressly allows the return.
  • D Staying on the left of a continuous centre line is itself forbidden; the code lets you return.

How this topic works in RoadReady

Every lesson in this topic is a short read built around the pictures the real questions use, and every practice question ends the same way as the one above: why the right answer is right, and why each other option is wrong. A mock exam draws on all of it, scored exactly like the real thing — 50 questions, 15 seconds each, five points for a heavy fault — and your readiness figure tells you honestly when this topic is done.
