Heavy fault · 5 points

A half barrier closes your side of the road but the other side is clear. May you drive round it?

  1. Yes, if no train is in sight
  2. Yes, the open half is there to be used
  3. No, the barriers are still closed
  4. Yes, if you have already waited more than a minute

The answer

C — No, the barriers are still closed

Why

Art. 20.3, 1° forbids going onto the crossing while the barriers are closed. The half barrier leaves the opposite side clear as an escape route, not as a way in.

Why not

  • A The ban does not depend on what you can see.
  • B It is open so that a vehicle caught on the crossing can drive off it.
  • D The code attaches no waiting time to the ban.

How this topic works in RoadReady

Every lesson in this topic is a short read built around the pictures the real questions use, and every practice question ends the same way as the one above: why the right answer is right, and why each other option is wrong. A mock exam draws on all of it, scored exactly like the real thing — 50 questions, 15 seconds each, five points for a heavy fault — and your readiness figure tells you honestly when this topic is done.
